Got a chance to hangout with the infamous Skid Row. I must say that he’s a pretty kool cat. He is a Fr8 Train Riding Bum who has been riding the rails for over 30 years. He loves fr8s and graffiti. I was really impressed that he could read panels and tell you what the pieces read. He’s been all over the US and can drop some knowledge on you. He can get a little annoying when sober. He keeps a secret spot of mine on the low and has chased out dumb knuckleheads. Peace to Skid!

After that whole discussion about the whole FTRA and freighthopping movement, I decided to dig deeper. I went ahead and pulled out all of the old 35mm pictures I shot back in the day. Sure enough, I found another FTRA moniker tag done by Dan’l Boone FTRA dated 8-29-1987. It amazes me how long these streaks run on these old rusty boxcars. Anytime I walk down the line, I look for the older run down boxcars for this reason. I also flicked the legend himself Herby. If you ever happen to be by some boxcars, look on the panels. Anyhow, enjoy the pics!

More to come soon! Here is a little yard fun! The workers in that locomotive where pretty koo. I thought they harass me, but they where pretty friendly and dropped a little yard knowledge.
Happy Thanksgiving!!!

Being the Fr8 addict that I am, I found this post to be a real kool find while browsing through weburbanist’s site. I always had an interest in industrial and railroad parts of the city. Finding an abandoned railroad yard would be a dream for me. You tend to find some pretty amazing stuff while walking yards and you can snap some very sweet photography. Not to mention the history that you find while walking through a yard. Now if I could find an abandoned circus scrap yard, that would be the shit!

Got a chance to walk down to the yards on this cold ass morning and catch a couple of nice trains. Not as many as I wanted due to pesky yard workers running me off. Caught my homie Hero, Sleep, Vital, Size21 e2e, Stale, Quiter, Gasp, Dekr, Sigh, etc… Check them out!!!

While I am out benching and not flicking pieces on the fr8s, I find myself looking for box cars that have no pieces looking for “hobo tags,” “streaks,” “oil bars,” “worker tags,” “freight monikers,” “chalk graffiti,” “boxcar art” of infamous monikers we hear about through stories, net, and other writers. If you are a fr8 addict, then you should know about these guys who where the original fr8 kings leaving tags since back in the days of war world era. Early writers have got into the art form of streaking. In my eyes it is an art form as these guys are expressing themselves with their own unique tag.
I find JD King Esquire’s story very interesting as a rich man by day who loved to get filthy and ride the rails on the weekend to get a view of America you cannot see on the roads.
There is many more to come, so check back!!!
